Battery drain--places to look?

Dead battery; battery itself holds a charge just fine. There's a constant drain of about 12 volts if I measure between the negative pole of the battery and the (disconnected) ground wire; all doors shut, nothing on that I can see.
Clue: the alarm was on when I first reconnected the battery after a week of sitting in the garage.
Never had any trouble like this before.
Is there some way to eliminate whole sections of the electrical system rather than checking each individual switch, etc.? Is it possible to check for current drain at the fuses? Trying to do the easiest thing first, you know. TIA.
