The fact is that poly and solid mounts will transmit more vibration than the stock rubber (upper) and hydraulic (lower) mounts. Now comes the question - how much is too much?
Here's how I look at it - if you want the car to retain the stock ride, stick with rubber uppers and hydraulic lower mounts. This is stock.
If you plan on doing suspension upgrades, then solid mounts make sense. They reduce engine movement, which will improve handling some. Also, a suspension upgrade usually means that you are willing to trade off some comfort for performance. Doing solid mounts without doing suspension upgrades will not noticeably improve handling.
Some folks have gone to poly uppers/solid lowers with little or no increase in vibration. Others find it objectionable. That's because every engine is a little different, and some vibrate more than others. You may not know until you install them. If you're willing to do the job again, you can always try the stiffer mounts. Again, some folks have had no problem with vibration. Others have. Are you feeling lucky?
If you have an automatic, I recommend against solid & poly mounts. The vibration in gear at idle can be pretty wicked.
Solid mounts will last longer than hydraulic, but you've got a 12 year old car already. The hydraulic can last 8-10 years, so if you're looking to keep the car another dozen, then maybe solid mounts make sense there.
My recommendation is to go stock - rubber uppers, hydraulic lowers, unless you're upgrading the suspension.
