...but i also drive a 90, as you may know, and i also already have an erickson rebuilt tranny (manual), at the cost of $1650, and it STILL WHINES! ;)

But i know the cause of this, and you should check it out...

...this is a real no brainer too..

...THE TRANNY FLUID! ;)

If you notice some of my posts a while back, i was talking about a noticeable, and very disturbing, whine from the drivetrain.

After checking the oil dipstick, i put a quart of 10w-30 in the tranny, and noticed the whine go away, for a while...

...but it came back later, meaning only one thing, A LEAK!

To my dismay, one day after letting the car sit for a while, ALL the tranny fluid leaked out, plus ALL of the power steering fluid too.

I'm not sure if the problems are related, but the P.S. has been leaking for a while, it finally decided to go all the way.

the tranny has a leak on it's passanger side output seal, and should be easy to replace...

...but what YOU should know is... they tranny takes like 2.5 liters to fill... which is roughly 2.5 quarts also.

you should be able to SEE PLENTY of oil on the dipstick is this ammount actual resides in your tranny right now.

If you can't see MUCH oil on the dipstick, adding a quart cannot hurt.

OR if you are motivated... you can get a hand pump and get as much oil out of the tranny as you can, and refill with just over 2 quarts of 10w30 or 40. as you cannot pump the full 2.5 liters out with just a hand pump, so i've been told. YOu can get most of it though...

...in any case, more oil should make a TRANNY whine go away, but it could be something else in the chain of things making the whine as well..

oil is cheap, and the alternative to not having any oil is... expensive!
