Hi derek,
There is no real way to know what was daamaged or not damaged until you get a replacement tranny and attempt swapping it out with thr broken one.
At that point during the swap, you will most likely become aware of any damage that was done to any of the other components...
the shifter being disloacted could be as simple as the shift coupler being broken, which is a small peice of rubber that connects the shifter in your hand with the rod coming out of the tranny itself.
The axles are probably fine from this incident, but during the swao you may notice that they are in need of replacement due to old age anyways.
There are two ways to go about this problem.
1. you spend the money, and i do mean money, to fix all the problems... however numerous they may be
2. you cut your losses and get another auto that works
You can get trannies cheap, if you look hard enough, and other parts you can find cheap as well... labor isn't always cheap, unless you do it yourself...
I'm not trying to discourage you, but tranny failure has happened to my 90 9kt before 3 times... and it's usually a pretty big deal... no small quick fix... ever
