Chevy Malibu surprisingly similar to the 9000

I just spent about 400 miles in a Malibu LS with a V6. Aside from being kinda ugly, it is a lot like a 9K. Mine was the four-door trunk model, but it remined me a lot of my 9K. I imagine the hatch model would be closer. Seemed about the same size inside, even has a decent trip computer. The materials are only fair quality, but the rental had 9500 miles on it and the car seemed reasonably well put together.
Good power, quiet ride, better roll stiffness than a stock 9K. Decent steering at highway speeds but over assisted around town. Did a 160 mile run on highway, often at 80+ and it got 33 mpg. Good brakes at first (needed a light touch) but theyseemed to run out of juice if pushed harder. And it was reasonably comfortable at over 100, too, when I had a MB 420 running interference. Didn't get to take it on a back road, though.
BUT THE SEATS!! As in most cars, these would be among the leading deal killers. The bottoms were too soft, not long enough and the seat back side bolsters were too narrow, digging into the backs of my rib cage. They adjusted OK, but not all that fun to sit in.
If GM fixed a few things on this car it would even be a possible alternative to 9K (power, ride, seats 5, hatch, etc.). Not sure how it would hold up over time, though.
