Agree with all that. The tires were just ordinary tires, but tires are also about the easiest thing to change on a car. And I'm sure the shocks would need some upgrading, too.
I didn't know it was the same platform as the 9-5. Makes sense, though.
It's another good example of how GM has a good idea but doesn't execute well.
A higher grade of interior materials, better seats, nicer aesthetics (inside and out) wouldn't add all that much to the price (about $26K for a Maxx, I think) but would make for a far nicer car.
I look at things on the Maxx, like the fold-flat front passenger seat and think, Gee that's a great feature (I know, Toyota has it on the Matrix) and wish it was on my 9K. I could actually put one of my kayaks inside the car in a pinch!
But the Malibu is what you get when the bean counters are calling the shots. And GM wonders why they come up short for anything other than trucks.
