The intermediate flexpipe doesn't involve the front section of the exhaust where the O2 sensor is installed, so it's a fairly easy bolt on.
While you could try patching it, it probably won't last too long, since it's undergoing a lot of movement, and already weakened. I wouldn't think just one of the ridges just separated without some corrosion going on.
If you don't want to live the the noise for now, you're better off getting the replacement and bolting it on; it was about $100 when I got one last year.
