AK Colin, I just quickly read this thread. I own a 1990 9000s 2.0 non turbo 5-speed My short answer if your Tranny still functioning at all. STOP DRIVING IT NOW !!! Now for the long answer. My tranny had bearing noise and was diagnoised to be Pinion bearings(not sure what they are but the car drove and I figued it would get let me know when I need to rebuild or replace. a couple of thousnad miles later I replaced the shifting coupler then the next symptom was it would pop out of 2nd gear during right hand turns and when I would go up a grade while turning right. All indication Were pointing me towards mounts and or linkage. I replaced the lower rear mount with solid rubber. I thought about poly and was heading in that directions when one day I notice a slight pinging noise and could feel it in the shifter. while in 1st and 2nd gears. I slow way down 15 /20 miles per hour and tried to nurse it home. I didn't make it. It lock up and I came to a very sudden stop. The bell houseing to the left of input shaft has a quarter size hole in it. My theory is the bearing noise turned to movement of gears(poping out 2nd) with eventual failure. Or the shifting linkage(internal) some how came apart and jamed the gears. I went with a used train (91000) miles it and I'm repalcing all clutch components up to the hose to master cylinder. After the car is back on the road. I hope to dissasemble the broken tranny to figure it out. If your's is still working maybe rebuilding it is an option. At this point I don't think engine movement, mounts or shifting linkage( external) were the cause or root of this tranny failure. Good luck please keep us informed of your decisions and the cause of yours tranny ills. Derek
