Subframe bolts Posted by Bill Homer [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Clunk went away on my car, Pierre, Tue, 5 Jul 2005 16:42:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The subframe is the silver-colored metal structure that the engine/transmission, steering rack, front control arms and radiator attach to. The bolts that I am referring to are at the four corners of the subframe (two at each front corner, four at each rear corner) and go UP into the body of the car, attaching the subframe to the body.
The Haynes manual (Chapeter 7: Manual Transmission) gives the torque spec as 37 ft-lbs for the front mounting bolts (13 mm heads), 41 ft-lbs for the rears (I assume this is for the ones with 14 mm heads, but no different spec for the ones with 13 mm heads). If they are loose it will be obvious.
The bolts are very easy to access and I have heard that some SAAB mechanics check/tighten them at every oil change.
