The oil pump is that large metal lump directly behind the main pulley. The thing the seal fits into is actually the oil pump. The oil pump bolts to the face of the timing chain cover, and has the crankshaft coming right through the center of it. The oil-pump o-ring is the seal between the back of the oil pump and the face of the timing chain cover.
To inspect it, the best way is to remove the fender inner-liner. Barring that, you can pull the bottom of the rubber cover inside the inner-liner off and peek in. Getting that cover back in place can be a little tricky. If you've got a decent mechanic's mirror and flashlight, if you jack up (and support) the right front and remove the front tire, you might be able to peek in through the drive shaft hole in the inner liner.
You should be able to just see the bottom of the oil pump. When the seal leaks, it comes out the seal and down the face of the oil pump, and gathers at the bottom of the oil pump. If it's the o-ring, it isn't on the face.
If the o-ring is leaking, replace it next time you go in.
Again, I would investigate how badly it is leaking.
