Yup, exactly the same experience. Is it yours that the glovebox door never fits flush either?
I fitted wood vent glovebox last week. On previous one, was never able to get the vent to sleeve over the duct properly.
This time, removed the actual vent from the glovebox - there are 2 plastic clips/lugs that you can release with a finger nail. Made sure that metal spring/coil that keeps the tension in the vent direction lever was fitted properly.
Then - fitted the vent to the duct (glovebox still out at this point so plenty of room).
Then - pushed glovebox in, directing the vent through the location hole which is attached to the glovebox and secured with the six screws. Finally using a 90o piece of metal, pushed it through a vent hole to grab hold of an edge and pulled the vent into location. It snaps into the lugs with a satisying click and hey presto!
It's only taken me 5 years to work that one out.
