I have seen one botched seal replacement by another shop where they dented and scratched the shifter shaft.
I replaced the seal again but COULD NOT get the transmission to stop leaking.
I was mighty surprised over how much oil that could leak out by that seal lip just because of the scratches and had to add about 1-2q of trans oil everytime he came in for an oil change at 3K miles intervals.
So hopefully you have only gotten the seal incorrectly installed and not done any damage to shifter shaft.
