9000CS engine dilemma (to replace or not?)

Yesterday while driving to work my daughter's 1996 9000CS threw a bearing and lurched into a fatal death knock, tragically ruining an otherwise perfectly good engine. Why this happened, with regular oil changes (most recent only 3 weeks ago), is a mystery that may never be solved. The dilemma is this: to replace or not to replace? (the engine, that is)
The car has 155K miles, an almost-perfect body, auto trans, and everything works (except one annoying headlight wiper). I have spent about $1,500 on it in the 16 months I've owned it, from new exhaust to CV boots to complete front and rear brakes, battery, fuel pump and more. The mechanic who diagnosed it (and also worked on it since it was new) has offered $500 as a parts car. Another shop 30 miles away has a replacement 1997 LPT engine with 120K that they'll install for $2,100 and guarantee for 90 days. Most garages want $2,500 or more for the same replacement, but this one's cheaper because he happens to have the motor already.
The thing is, although I love Saabs, I no longer want this vehicle. She needs a more dependable, fuel-efficient car, and I don't want to keep paying for repairs. So, I'm considering spending the $2,100 on an engine, and then reselling it, rather than walk away with only $500. My question: What would you do?
Thanks,
Gene
