are not intrusive and annoying?
This is not directed at you, Mike C, but is an observation of many years on the water in different places.
While I have come to tolerate snowmobilers, Jet Ski guys as a group seem determined to be obnoxious show-offs. I realize there are exceptions, but since towns are regulating against them in many places it would seem that it's not a just few bad guys spoiling things for other PWC users: It's most of them.
I used to live in Swampscott, MA, on the coast north of Boston. They were banned from the town harbor and boat ramp and from within 100 yards of the shore. Virtually none of the people using them did so in a safe or responsible manner. They were speeding thru a very tight harbor/mooring area and zooming in too close to swim areas on the beaches. Boats were damaged and swimmers hit. The law passed with little trouble.
We go to a big lake in Maine in the summer and they have been banned there as well--even before they became a problem like they were on an adjacent lake where they are buzzing all the time. It's nice to go out in kayak and not have to worry about being run over. It's nice to sit on the beach or deck and not listen to some dude's JetSki motor while he plays with his own wake.
ATVs are having similar issues, and are a lot more of an environmental problem than PWCs because they damage the land when not used properly. Here in NH there are towns that prohibit their use because they are noisy, smelly, wreck the woods and trails, and are often ridden by some pretty obnoxious folks who seem to think it is their right to make noise and rip up the terrain.
Hard as it is to believe, a boat does not need an engine to be fun, and walking is a really good way to go into the woods.
End of rant.
