Disagree, not EVERY thing worse in an all season tire.

I have had seven different sets of tires on my 9000, not counting two different sets of snow tires. I found the all season tires to be at LEAST as good as a performance summer tire on wet roads and heavy rain/standing water. Also, the all seasons tend to have a higher tread wear and can last considerably longer, often at a lower price, making them a much better value. Yes, I know the old argument about how tires are a miniscule cost compared to other items such as fuel, maintenance, etc... But, why spend more than you have to? Also, you won't find a performance summer tire with a mileage warranty, whereas you will find several all-season tires (even V rated) with such a warranty. Sure, it doesn't mean you will get that many miles, but if you don't, cha-ching, discount on your next set.

Now, I am not going to argue that a dedicated winter tire isn't far superior to an all season on snow or ice. However, one of my sets was a very highly regarded snow tire. It was exceptional the first season, but the second season it turned into no better than a mediocre all-season tire, and I paid double the price for that one season of excellence.

Some of us live where there's hardly any snow or ice the entire year, or if there is, it lasts only a few days, when you can easily just stay home. I personally don't want to sacrifice tire life, mileage warranty, quiet ride, all while paying more initially, and twice as more eventually, due to half the life span. I would argue that if you ever get into a situation where the actual safety of the car occupants is a concern, then you are driving too fast for the conditions, your tires, your own skill, or all of the above. The high performance/ultra high performance all seasons provide a level of traction that is far above my own driving needs. Not everyone gets snow/ice every year, but that doesn't mean it's always dry and warm!
