What's killing my BPC valves? Posted by Rod [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I bought my wife's 98 9kCSE (manual) in January. It boosted quite well then but I always suspected it could do better - but never having had the 225HP aero engine before I didn't really know. After a few months it seemed that the boost was getting less and less. I switched out the BPC valve with mine from my 95 9kCSE and couldn't believe the difference - tires squealing, boost gauge waaaay into the red. So I figured $200 to Eeuroparts was money well spent for a new BPC. Strangely the first one I got was DOA - I just got base boost (with the old one I was a long way off full boost but I had more than base boost). I sent it back and got a replacement and that was fine. Now a few months later this one seems to be dying (I don't drive the car very often and my wife doesn't really notice, so I don't know how long it's been bad for). I hardly get into the red at all - unless I switch it for my other BPC and then it's way into the red again.
It's obviously the BPC that's the problem. Is it possible that oil or other contaminants are getting in there from the turbo hoses? Or is it more likely an ECU problem?
