The 2.5 Ohm valves must have started several years ago since I had one for about 5 years. It is not known if the change in coil resistance was intentional or not. It is not uncommon for coils to be wound with 1/2 gauge wire to obtain the desired properties. Lower coil resistance could be the result of a change in wire gauge and/or the number of turns. At 2.5 or 3.0 Ohms the valves are being driven very hard, like about 4 Amps. Other changes could have occured in the plastic bobbin material and coil design. Some place along the line the coil separator - disc retainer was changed from wear prone brass to powdered metal or some such.
