Be careful, a car like that is only worth maybe $1500 in PRIMO/showroom condition. It sounds like that one may be worth way way less.
If you don't have service records, you'll be gambling bigtime IMHO.
The clutch pedal gets harder to push and the engagement point gets closer to the ground as time goes by. A newly replaced clutch will have a pedal which is extremely light. If it's real hard to push or real low to the ground on a cold morning, the clutch is probably pretty old.
Other potential trouble areas include: the whole car ;-) Blower motor/heater core, motor mounts, brake calipers (if you live in rustbelt), cooling system/headgasket, AC system, headliner, shocks and other suspension components, CV boots ok? window regulators, etc etc (all based on my 2 years with a '89CDT)
There are so many potential problems with a 9K, that if you don't know what's been replaced when, and you don't even know if all the oil and coolant changes have been done on time, then you should do yourself a favor and not buy that particular car. Good luck tho either way.... _AMG
