I second most of what you're saying. After all, I drive one of those old beasts myself, right? I also like the two liter engine, it's so simple. The turbo gives me the extra power I like sometimes and the hatch is great for hauling things.
The fact of the matter is just that these cars are old, mostly abused and tend to break down. The things that break first are clutch and trans. I did mine -both- and it was twenty hours labor. The only thing that made that worth the while was I picked up the car -sight unseen- for 300 euro and trans/clutch for about 200. Anything above that price would have made me look a fool, I think. It's bad enough as it is.
Along with the other problems, the car should really be scrapped. But hey, it's mine, it gets me there. I could get another, a newer, flashier 9k, they go for about 1000-1500 euro now, everything working, better looks, better color, you know, better all around.
But I hate spending the money, so I'll just keep bouncing around in this piece of crap and fixing most things untill it falls apart. And you know what? They never do that. That's why I like saabs the most. Broken in most places, but still getting me there.
