The 88, and other 9000 in that era have the ABS/brake boost that has an ABS pump. And older cars take some time to come up to pressure. So at a minimum, you shouldn't drive off before the ABS and Brake Fluid lights both go out; should the ABS pump have failed, if you drive off with the lights on, you may not have brake boost when you get to your first stop sign. So at a minimum, that's 30 seconds.
Of course, when the car has been recently driven, the ABS pressure is good. And the car is warm, as is the oil. So you can 'drive off' that much sooner.
I'm a believer in letting oil get to where it needs to be before driving the car and putting a load on the engine. So I start the car, put on the seat belt, check the mirrors and seat, and let it warm a bit. If the car is cold, I let it warm 30 seconds or so; if it's warm, I drive off after I do my belt/mirrors. If the car is cold, I accelerate slowly and keep the revs down (out of the turbo) until the temp gauge starts moving up off the peg.
If you just drive off and get on the car, you may not have a good oil film established, so you'll get extra wear. And the engine isn't to temp, so the clearances are bigger, so the 'spec' lubrication isn't right.
