Time for a real electrical engineer to jump in on this topic again, or do a long search and find that Audi site that had the purist talking about the effects of using a big vs. small butt end connector!
My knowledge is somewhat basic in this area, but I would think that the length of wire would have a minimal impact on the operation of the sensor. However, what would make a bigger difference would be the way you connected those wires. That Audi guy that I spoke of seemed like he had spent weeks testing the different combinations of splicing connectors and arrived at using the smaller crimp connectors. Depending on the size of wire you use, the construction (solid vs. the different types of stranded)...etc, it can all make a difference, however minimal to the actual operation of the sensor. Length of wire shouldn't increase the resistance enough to make a difference, the added length being so short in this application that I can't imagine it having much of an effect at all. Obviously, people have done worse and their sensors still work. But, try to do a search on "o2 sensor" and find the one that had directions on how to splice the new sensor in...It was an Audi site and I think that Dick T had posted it, though I am not sure about that.
Good luck in your search for more info. I always enjoy learning more in this field, so if you find any groundbreaking research, let us know.
