This is new to me but I guess you learn new things everyday.
My understanding of the coolant/heater circuit is simply from the outward appearance of the hose arrangement. The water pump take suction from the radiator plus flow from the small steel tubing from the turbocharger. It discharges to the engine block for cooling the engine and a small tubing which loops around the passenger side of the engine block to the rear to enter the heater core. Flow out of the heater core goes into the block through a separate inlet. So there is nothing from the outside to indicate flow to the heater core could be blocked in any manner.
The coolant flowing out of the heater core is going into the block at the inlet near the front of the block on the driver side. To my understanding flow to the heater core is never impeded. There is no valve outside of the engine block. Any flow diversion on the heater circuit has to happen inside the engine block and I don't understand how that is achieved.
