I've gotten to the point of buying several, and putting them through a heating cycle on the kitchen stove to check accuracy and function. I just put a few in a pan of water with a good thermometer. Be sure to watch the cool down too, some end up never closing again. I'll bet that 25% are not accurate. Maybe 10% outright failures. This based on and inadequate sample, so my experience only.
Some of the stats have been top brands, including Saab. Real frustrating to put in a new stat and not have it work. You really start looking elsewhere in the cooling system before finally figuring out that the new stat is bad.
