Lever probably fell off the tumbler Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Driver's Door Lock, roachrl, Thu, 2 Feb 2006 11:53:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When you turn the key in the lock, you turn a lock tumbler. That tumbler has a lever on the back, which does a few things. First, it moves the button on the inside of the door. Moving that button moves a few things - a lever to allow the latch to unlock, and a switch that controls the central locking.
My guess is that the lever on the back of the lock cylinder has come loose. It is held on with a bolt, and that bolt may have backed off. If it does, you can turn the lock cylinder, but the lever won't engage the rest of the mechanisms.
If I were you, I'd remove the door panel and look in at the lock. My guess is that the lever is just loose. Next possibility is that the bolt worked all the way off, and the bolt and lever are rattling around in the bottom of the door. Last would be that the lever broke. But look first.
