Otherwise, please do not read the remainder of this message:
The faltering on overrun is a classic death knell for what we call the Hooter Valve.
That's the cylindrical object connected between the intake-to-turbo and intercooler-to-throttle-body tubes. Its purpose is to vent turbo boost back into the pre-turbo intake whenever the throttle is closed. Without it, a shockwave forms in the intake upon zero throttle which stalls the turbo compressor. This of course also means the exhaust side stalls, and the result is a sudden surge of backpressure in the exhaust, causing the car to stumble or even stall.
Before blaming the valve, check the vacuum tubing of course. But my money's on the hooter valve.
On your temperature sensor: check the sensor to see if your two cars are different. It's possible that you'll have a two-wire sensor in the 96, and a single-wire sensor in the 95. If so, you cannot interchange them.
