...you apparently missed my last comment about the break-in period.
But you have to be careful about the following statement:
"Synthetic is clearly better for everyday use."
It's true that it theoretically does oil's job better than dino oil, but if you're changing it every 3000 miles, it's not far ahead of dino oil. VERY unlikely that you'll see ANY wear differences between the two oils in this scenario. Synthetic is just more expensive unless you stretch the intervals meaningfully, or if you're in the habit of really torturing your car.
I've had cars that were run on synthetic, but I changed back to dino oil due to my frequent changes. I did have one car that leaked fairly significantly on synthetic, not on dino. On very rare occasions, oil burning can occur due to increased amounts of oil in the cylinders (getting too much past oil control rings). Just bear these factors in mind when weighing the advantages of synthetic.
NOT saying don't use it! You may still prefer it. But depending on your particular habits and circumstances, it's not always going to give you a meaningful benefit, and as I pointed out, it's about twice as expensive on average.
Of course, if you're driving a BMW that specifies 8 quarts of synthetic, don't throw dino oil in there!
