look in your junk drawer for a 12v dc wall wart. maybe one from an old scanner, modem, cordless phone. 9 volts will probably work just as well, probably won't hurt anything to try.
here in the states many stores sell 'universal power supplies' and sometimes i even find them at dollar stores.
i have an old vw beetle clock in my garage, used it for years as a clock in my bedroom. hook the light wire to the positive and it'll stay lit. not sure if it's running on 9 or 12 volts. 9 would make the light dimmer.
