So...
I confirmed the noise isn't there when the serp belt is off. I changed the belt itself, and both pulleys, which diidn't feel particularly good, but still have the noise.
The PO painted white lines on the main pulley to detect separation, so they've been there at least since I bought the car at 170,000km - still no problem now.
The alternator is definitely producing appropriate voltage, and spinning it by hand, it felt like it free-wheeled no problem, with no noise at all. Very smooth.
The power steering pump is now the main culprit... spinning it, it squeaked a little bit. It was jerky, but I understand that is to be expected... I noticed the fluid level is about right between the min and max markers. Not sure when it was last changed...
So... what should my next course of action be? I presume I should change the power steering fluid?
Thanks guys!
