1. I have the first alternator bolt off, and am able to swivel it. I can't seem to find the second. It looks like it bolts in from the back (brushes side) Do I need to remove my oil filter to get at it? If I remove my oil filter- will it drain all the oil in the engine? Sorry to sound stupid, but I am a newbie DIY'r.
2. I saw that there are two wires that attach to a mount in the back. 1 looks like a bundle of wires and the other looks like a small single wire. Well the samll wire looks like it shorted or something. All the casing is blackened (it may have been green at one time), and there are quite a few spots that are burned off totally exposing the bare wire. Could this be what caused all of my problems in the first place? (Alternator was only pushing 12 volts) What is the fix for it?
I think I will still put in the new alternator since it is already bought- and I might as well do it while I am there huh? I don't know the last time (if any) it was replaced. I am at about 140k miles.
