My wife's Aero DI died at 80k, but was covered under extended warranty. I had just bought a new DI for my CSE with 125k, and was using the original DI as the backup. 30sec and wife was running again. Not only was she impressed, but forgave me for wasting money on spare car parts.
Her DI failed suddenly when she made a quick stop after a day of running around town.
I'm guessing that general maintenence will prolong life of a DI, but it is an electrical component which can quit at any time. I'm sure that someone has had a DI last over 200k, and probably as many die at 20k. Seems like an average on this board is around 100k.
I like the argument offered by one poster in the past that in 100k miles he would have replaced 4 distributor caps and rotors and at least one set of spark plug wires, and perhaps the coil. All of that would have added up to the cost of a new DI, so it was basically a wash.
We Saabers can rationalize a lot...
