I used to have a really keen tool for balancing the SU carburettors on my Morgan Plus Four drophead - as I remember, going back almost 40 years (!) you measured the vacuum directly from the inlet to the carbs with a little tube that had a ball floating in it. Fuel injection and electronics have seen the back of such gadgets...

One one occasion I "balanced" the four carbs on my Honda S600 and it didn't go any worse than it did before I'd balanced them - I count that a success!
