Hi guys.

The car I bought a few months back now has taken an age to fix all the gremlins, so it was time to turn my attention to the aircon.

Guy who sold it said "it probably just needs regassing"...yeah, I know...

After reading the posts on this board, I checked the fuse, relays etc and finally checked the airgap on the compressor which was huge! 40 thou plus!, so I gave the clutch plate a prod with a large screwdriver and sure enough, it engaged and started spinning! Speechless!

Obviously, tomorrow's job will be to take off the clutch and remove shims until I get the airgap right, however...

With the compressor now running, the vents in the dash were not blowing cold when ACC set to LOW.

(The ACC does give me heat when set to heat (so i take it the flaps are ok?)and the blower and fan resister are doing their job too)

Question: I understand that if the refrigerant pressure is low, the compressor won't run, but as it does run, does that mean there should be enough pressure to blow cold air, or does it really just need a refrigerant top up?

Note: Car is 1996 2.3 LPT and is R134a system. I have no idea when the compressor was last run, but I'd assume over a year.

After 10 mins of running, the large pipe was slightly cool and the small pipe was warm
