I had someone back into my car in a similar situation with similar, but less severe damage to my '87 9kT. The estimate to repair was about $700. Quarter panel work is difficult, from what I understand, and the process involved in getting the paint to look right is also difficult. My '87 has metal instead of plastic under the lights, which could make a difference either way, and the damage to the quarter was less severe, but that might not make to big a difference. I had two shops do estimates, including one that was a friend of the person that hit me, both were within a few dollars of each other. It's possible they could have done slightly less quality work for less money (not feathering the paint, etc.) but I didn't ask since this was through insurance. I did offer to compromise by getting a used tail light, which I think the other party appreciated.
