I can't speak to the specific year you are considering and I'm certainly no Saab expert; just a rabid fanatic. In 2003, I purchased a 95 Aero for $7k from the CIO I was working for. The car had 130k at time of purchase and as of today, has 205k. I've had the following repairs made since purchase:
1. Fuel pump
2. Clutch
3. Small leak in refrig system
4. New rubber muffler hangers
5. New tires (Firestone Integra's) Car came to me with Goodyear Eagles in need of replacement.
The car run greats even though my local Saab shop George's Imports, says it needs a new ECU. It does cut out slightly at low RPM's but runs good enough until I can afford the $1k it will take to replace the ECU. Car consistenly averages 29-30 MPG. Suspension is in great shape. Steering and handling perfect. Body is very good but a little rust is starting to breakthrough on the left rear quarter panel. At the cost of most new or even very good used cars, I plan on repairing and driving this Aero until I get a major engine failure. Even then, my plans are to buy a used Aero if any are available on Saabnet. Hope this is helpful information for you. Please contact me if you need further details.
