replacing AC hoses- preparation, advise? Posted by henry helfman [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I just ordered a new set of AC hoses. I've been chasing a refrigerant leak for the whole summer and I'm pretty sure the high side hose crimp is leaking at the compressor because after cleaning them/recharging/losing charge they seem 'gummy' and the crimp can turn around the aluminum pipe with enough applied torque by hand.
I've read a lot of people mention that the high side connector at the condensor is likely to be siezed. Shall I dremel a slit in the fitting and carefully cut it away? Looks like the oil cooler would have to be moved out of the way for this operation.
I'm not replacing the reciever drier or evacuating the system... yet. I dont have an evacutation pump so getting one is always a big deal and I've already replaced 1 leaky o-ring and dumped about 10 lbs of 134a (at $10 each ouch!) into the system this season alone so I'm very skeptical
that this will do it and anticipate going in deeper.
On the plus side, I just got the car back from the body shop, they did a great job for about $720 (I provided used parts). Will provide pics on another post
