David, I agree it is not sure fire, especially on the Trionic systems introduced in 1993. However, on my 1991 model, I can pull the fuel pump fuse to force a no start condition, and when I crank the engine, the tach needle will bounce for me. Since the car is a 1991, I thought it might help.
There are two electical areas to look at along these lines. The first would be to check the retangular plugs over by the battery. Those can become disloged when working on the engine, and it is where the DI connects and the CPS connects. The next item is to check the ground on the DI cassette harness. This connects to the head at the thermostat housing, and is the ONLY ground point for the whole DI/APS system.
And, it could be a coincedental DI failure.
