How much damage to rear bumper?

I got tagged in the rear bumper of wife's Aero by a pickup. The Volvo in front stopped inexplicably on a green arrow, so did I, but the guy behind in the pickup was still accelerating. Pretty solid tag, and the bumper was pushed in 1.5-2". Also paint from the licence was plastered on the bumper. The Aero's painted bumper was clearly creased or wrinkled where the bumper got pushed in at ~ 2".
My question is how much damage could be done to the bumper or car itself? I buffed out the paint in the bumper today, and the paint went away. The scratches are obvious, but not horrible, and the 'wrinkles' in the bumper cover are still obvious.
Wife's Aero is in great shape, and even though the car is 11yrs old, this damage is obvious. She is ticked. Nevertheless, I'm thinking of letting this go if there is not any unseen damage.
The bumper really did it's job. No metal damage even though I'm sure many lesser cars would have sustained pretty serious trauma.
I just want to make sure I'm not overlooking something expensive.
