And in a 87 its gonna be quite a bit more work. To be able to get in there i'm thinking that your going to basically go through the steps of changing the heater core and on an 87 that invovles quite a bit of extra work. If i remember correctly the 1st gen 9ks need the removal of the intake manifold along with part of the wiper system to make room for removing the blower motor box and for pulling out the heater core. Once you've done that you'll have access to the whole ac ducts and in going this route you might as well replace the blower motor and heater core on the 87 if they haven't been done recently. Only other thing that might give you any access is taking off the top of the dash but i can't say that will get you anywhere. Now i could be wrong and somebody on here might know a simpler way to do this but i grew up with a 1st gen 9k as a kid and never worked on it. I'm more familiar with 3rd gen 9ks.
