Out of the blue my 94cde won't start. It has been sitting in my driveway for a couple of weeks. I started it last Saturday to take it around town. It died at an intersection. I cranked and cranked. Finally it started up again. I didn't think much of it. Sunday, it just won't start anymore. I replaced the DI and a good fuel pump. Neither does any good. I have three 9k's, BTW, 2 94 and a 95. Plus I have three spare DI's in my garage and two fuel pumps, one relatively new one used I wanted to rebuild. The CPS measured 542 Ohm. Right on the money. Tach rises and stayed at about 100 rpm when I cranked. I also have a couple of CPS's. But removing the rusted torx mounting screw for the CPS on the block prooved too much so I gaved up.
I cranked to the point the battery lost charge. It is an Interstate 34 I bought this June. So I trickle charged it and regroup.
Anyway I started the diagnosis test written by Ari today.
Step 1
Fuse 23 always hot
Fuse 13 hot when switched on
Fuse 14 cold
all fuses were good
Step 2
The CEL came on when the ignition key was switched on
Step 3
rather than using a test lamp, I stuck the votimeter probes between pins 10 and 6 on the DI connector. First I removed fuse 23 for more than 5 seconds with the ignition off. Reinserted the fuse. Turned ignition on. There was no voltage. So I went to test 4.
Test 4
I jumpered pin 30 to 87. Nothing happened. I did the same test on my 94cs (which has no problem). Same thing. What's wrong? And BTW I think something is wrong with the wiring diagram, or the wiring. Pin 30 on the main relay socket is supposed to be always hot. Instead pin 87 is. I verified it on my 94cs also. But this is okay. When voltage is applied between pins 85 and 86, it pulled pin 87 toward 87a to close the circuit. I verified the main relay working in this manner.
Next I did test 1 the fuel pump test
I jumpered fuse 14 to fuse 22. The fuel pump whined in the trunk.
Then I did Test 2
When I turned on ignition, the voltage starts at 15 volts and dropped back to zero. According to the diagnosis there is a problem with the fuel pump. But how can it be? The fuel pump ran.
It got dark. I called it a day.
