Fuel Pump Removal issues

Hey all thanks for the help in advance.
I am having a couple of issues removing my fuel pump (I already did ARI's test, so i am pretty sure it is the fuel pump.
1.) I can't get the friggen' fuel pump cap off of the tank. I have tried both suggested tools (the PVC tool and the wood tool). The wood tool snapped in two when i tried to torque the cap counter-counter clock wise. The PVC tool ended up being to small, all the PVC were too small. Am i turning the wrong way? If not anyone suggest how I might be able to loosen the cap cheeply?
2.) Despite being gentle, one of the non-return valves snapped in the middle. The fuel lines are still intact, however. Can some tell me where to find a non-return valve (other than the King's randsom dealerships), and an easy way of replacing it and removing the peice still stuck in the cap of the fule tank.
Thanks -T
