...you're supposed to use GM power steering fluid in our cars (one 92, several 93s over the years, an 89. Haven't looked on our 98).
I put ATF in our 92 a couple of years ago, and it's beginning to make noise now. Don't do it if you don't have to.
I don't know if Saab changed the spec, but DON'T use ATF in your 9000 power steering unless it specifically says to do so.
One reason is that different hydraulic oils have different chemical makeups which can, given the right conditions, cause havoc with your o-rings and seals. The likelihood of your killing your steering rack/pump before the car's time comes may be small, but it's bad form to stray from the car's proper spec if you're unsure.
