Malibu and Maxx are cheapened Vectras IIRC

They're based off the same platform the current 9-3 is, and the current Euro-market Opel Vectra, though the Malibu is much, much cheapened over those cars. Much, much, much, much, much cheapened. Where does GM get all that gray?
The Vectra isn't screwed together badly, but the aesthetics are a little weird. And the RHD Vectra rental we had in Ireland last year had an ergonomic glitch even worse than the Focus/Cobalt handbrake-under-the-armrest. The gas pedal is a long way - four inches? - out from the footwell side. Damn near enough to put your foot between the pedal and the kick panel. It's incredibly tiring to keep your foot on an accelerator that's hung out in the middle of nowhere. I was tempted to stop by a hardware shop and buy a chunk of two-by-four and a couple screws.
