$600-$700 to do the heater core. That's if they really know how to do it bcz they've done a thousand of them. One of the techs at my indy can get the core out in about 45 mins, but he's been doing it for 12 years. A shop that doesn't do Saabs may charge more and/or screw up other stuff bcz they don't know how to do the job.
I think the Barr's Leaks option is OK as a temporary measure, but keep in mind that it is only a band-aid fix. You're still gonna have to do the core at some point.
Cores, BTW, come in two flavors. One is the all-metal one, the other the original metal and plastic version. See eEuroparts for details. If you plan on keeping the car a long time, go with all metal.
