Ok Saabers!

I’m really confused about the heater core replacement scenario. On one hand I’ve read that the way one knows that its time to fix this issue is when you “smell” that “syrupy” scent emanating from the vents as the heat is turned on. I think I get that but what about the other issue with the drainage pipe clog scenario? In other words, how do I know that my problem is one or the other? Or can it be both? Currently I think I have both problems present; I’m experiencing the “gurgle” noise as I make right turns with the air on and at night when the temp drops I’m experiencing the “syrupy” smell each time he heater is turned on. Given that fact that I don’t have the time or expertise to do the job I rely on my local dealer for all my work and I don’t want to spend anymore that I have too. P.S. Does anyone know what the cost would be for a dealer install on the heater core? My local dealer charges $110 per hour.
