Experiences with using split cv joint boot kits...

I did a search on the board, and only found a few posts regarding using split cv joint boot kits. None of them were from past experiences using them, only based on hearsay. So...
What's the consensus on using these kits? Could anyone who used them please post your opinion?
My driver's side is torn, and after doing the passenger side about 2 years ago, I do not want to tackle that task again using the conventional style boot. That job nearly cost me my marriage and torching my car! I'm not looking to replace the shaft or to remove it. It's not as easy as everyone says it is (just as was said about replacing the boot which turned out to be horrible).
I want to try using the split boot style, so hopefully there are others out there who have done this and can pass along their thoughts.
