I have used two different types, but never on Saabs. There was a rubber split boot held together with small machine screws/nuts. They didn't hold up well, with grease soon oozing out (meaning water could be seeping in.) Another type was more of a plastic, that you weld together using a tube of goo they supply. As others have said, you need to be very careful to keep it clean and apply exactly the right amount of goo uniformly. My experience is that this second type, if done right and you don't often turn lock-to-lock, might last long enough to get you through the winter. Either type should be considered just temporary and you should check them often until you can get a proper replacacement.
