I have avoided these things like the plague for nearly 20 years. The quality may be better now, but at that time the joint was short-lived, and the material brittle.
Access to the joint while attaching the boot to the axle is limited. After the first boot failed within 2 mos., I removed the axle and installed another split boot, this time working on the kitchen table.
I tie-wrapped the inner accordian folds and let the sealer set a good while. This boot took about 5 months to fail.
