My wonderful 2.3 FPT Anniversary has developed a fault, or faults, with the autobox. The car has done 206K, the auto fluid is clean and up to the max mark.

The problem suddenly came on this afternoon, the box is holding onto gears and not shifting down at the same speed it used to. i.e. before it would drop into top at about 42 and drop down to 3rd at about 40. Now it changes at about 35 slowing down and will cycle between 3rd and 4th at about this speed. It also hangs onto 3rd, maybe 2nd and will slog along at 1000 rpm without downshifting.
It seems too happy to change gear accelerating, I am pretty sure it missed out 2nd altogether and went straight to 3rd about 1100 rpm.
Oh... and reverse seems to come and go! It will come back after moving the lever between Park and Drive. I haven't worked out how to reliably recreate this particular fault.
Manually shifting seems to work OK, the car has also lurched at standstill, once again not sure of the pattern here, I was just praying it would get me home...

Any ideas? I am going to phone around for a replacement box tomorrow, the car is too good to scrap, despite its high miles! I am fairly mechanically OK, so any suggestions as to what I can check without taking the box out will be welcome.
