I used a turkey baster to suck some of the coolant out of the expansion tank. Not completely sure this was necessary, though. Then I drained down the upper hose using a funnel and empty coolant jug. I replaced that hose while I was there and the system was open.
I undid all the bits and little hoses by the t-stat housing (some coolant may come out of the hose going to the throttle body.
The t-stat housing is easy to get off, but one of the bolts is a bit awkward, IIRC.
Not a bad job, just takes a while cuz of all the stuff you have to move out of the way. But you DO NOT, as Quasimotors suggests on his site, have to remove the throttle body.
The little hole must be up, and it is possible to put the stat in backwards, so note how the old one looks before you pull it out. I worked slowly, took pix of the hoses and connections and it took maybe an hour or so.
