axle nut could be over-torqued? the car never sat/rolled on a bearing without an axle going through it.
I know that the axle nut torque ~200 ft-lbs so I have always made sure to load it up with a pipe-on-ratchet. Perhaps it is over-torqued?
One one side, the axle nut threads are slightly deformed at the end and it was very tight so I didn't get a good feel for the torque on it.
Upon disassembly I made a mistake "breaking loose" the splines. I backed out the axle nut so it was past flush with the axle and gave it a smack with a sledge. It went back together and I knew it was tight. I'm hoping that doesn't have to come apart right away again.
